Roselle plant calyces are worldwide used for the production of beverages with vital health benefits. Oxidative stress has received a considerable scientific attention as a mediator in the etiology of many human diseases. Cell damages caused by oxidative stress are linked to many diseases that include atherosclerosis, diabetes, and cancer. However, a broad range of health-revitalizing effects has been observed in Roselle drink and tea since they are rich in anthocyanin; a potent bioactive compound with strong antioxidant potentials. The intake of drink rich in flavonoids which are a class of polyphenols exerts preventive effects against some chronic diseases.
